what are the side effects of electroconvulsive therapy? are irreversible?
A friend of mine has had three sessions of ECT. She will was given as therapy for depression. After the third session of her memory loss was very disturbing: I could not remember how to use the remote control the TV, or what he had to do to make your face (though it was an actress when she was young). One side says that as almost harmless and beleveing other resembling torture. Finding the truth can be difficult and depends on individual practitioners and PT greatly. Most would agree that there will be some degree of memorey and even loss of the engine during a period of time. How much and for how long are of great debate. Most people suffer the greatest loss in the short term and as his brain "reorganize" memorey substantualy improvement over time. You can always be some amnesia surrounding the time of treatment, but usually is not important in the long term. Memorey profound long-term or engine problems have been linked to the abuse of ECT treatments, seazures uncontrolled during or post TEC leads to hypoxia or detention, lengthy series of treatments or courses of treatment extended for relapsed or unresponsive PT, and other rare fators or other events. If your friend is still struggling prolonged or increased symptoms, please incurage to talk to her psychiatrist about the problem. Even if it's something that is affecting their lives largely or concern for her, should bring the concerns to his mental health provider.
